Hello! I would like to personally welcome you to Surviving Mold Illness. My name is Kathy, and I have been diagnosed with a chronic inflammatory response syndrome as a result of exposure to the interior of water-damaged buildings. After struggling for so many years with a multitude of health issues, I am truly thankful to have a wonderful doctor who is now helping me to regain my health.
My journey is probably similar to many of yours with a multitude of doctors, treatments, and failures before finally getting to the underlying cause of my problems. I actually had been treated 4 years previously for chronic inflammatory response syndrome but at the same time had also developed complex regional pain syndrome. Because the complex regional pain syndrome took so much of my time and effort, I failed to educate myself regarding my mold illness. Unfortunately, the doctor who treated me at the time also failed to educate me or to encourage me to become educated about my condition. Because of this, I found myself worse off than ever before as I had made no changes in my environment or lifestyle to avoid mold exposure.
In January of 2013, things finally began to come together as my own physician began the process of learning along with me and several other patients about mold illness and the treatment for it using the protocol established by Dr. Shoemaker. Determined not to make the same mistake twice, I began to educate myself regarding my mold illness and the steps I needed to take in order to survive mold. While all the new terminology and lingo can seem overwhelming at first, let me encourage you that it is important for you to have a good understanding of your illness so that you can take charge of your own health and well-being. I am still continuing to learn more and more about chronic inflammatory response syndrome and mold illness as new research and protocols are continually being developed. Everything from how mold affects my body and the proper way to treat it to the science of proper building techniques and how to keep my environment safe needs to be understood if I am to successfully survive mold.
